Today, around 4.3billion internet users have defined the new term of globalisation.The entire world has became a single village.
Social medias have not only connected the entire world population but also have provided a single platform to interact different world community,culture ethnic groups to interact.These platforms have such a large number of users that is more than combined population of India&China or around 65% world population.
Today globally there are around 4 billion google users, 2 billion youtube users, 2.8billion monthly users to fb. With such a large number of users, these tech gaints are huge enough to change,alter or impact any country set-up,overthrow existing government.
The main point of concern is are these tech gaints a challange to any sovereign nation or national security or have these platforms creates their own country of mixed population having similar ideology.
Twitter has became the main platform of world leaders of global personalities.
Its role in American Presidential Election and recently the protest agaisnt its policy in India are the glaring examples that how these tech gaints are impacting the nations.
These platforms have also became a challange to the news agency as the common people generally prefer to use social medias like fb,twitter,google newsfeed ,youtube for news updates instead of visting to the offical sites of news channels,that is also a matter concern as these tech gaints are taking advantages of the efforts of news channel and the voice has been started rasing agaisnt this also from France and Australia.
India has the largest number of facebook,instagram and youtube users and is leading on many other top sites like twitter etc.
The presence of such a large number of users globally on these platforms have both negative and positive impact.
If we talk about advantages they are as - a global platform of source of information, a tool to spread awarness as we seen in the case of COVID-19, as a tool agaisnt authoritative government that is if government channels are blocked for public opinion the people have these platforms
As usual the list of negative impact is also not minimal. Fake news that promotes riots,protests,mob-lynching,communal disharmony,indiviual privacy (i.e., unwanted app permissions)are serious challanges to tackle.
Thess sites are also used by terrorist groups as these sites provides end to end encryption to data sharing.
Now the questions arise should we stop using all these sites. Obviously no, but the need is imorovment, to create awarness and all these is not possible from any single side i.e., from users or service provider also the role of goverment is curicial.
Both has to work in a collaboration.From users sides we must fact check any news before forwarding to someone like finding out actual source of information,always trust on offical news channels or goverment sites.Reporting fake contacts, before allowing apps permission check what is the required need by that app to access our particular data.Social media has become the centre of fake news so if possible try to visit offical news channels websites.The new generation always have curosity to know about existing system of the world,so our sincerity toward their guidance or surveillance of proper use of internet is needed.
Date protection or indiviual privacy must be protected and for this government should have proper legislation to regulate these service providers.Also the role of goverment is to maintain a proper competition among different players so that there will not be monopoly of any single company.
Service providers has the sole responsbility to protect privacy of indiviuals and proper monitring of their secuirty is needed.Of course they are provding there best but that is not upto the mark.
